We offer 39 Finnish courses to choose from. In the list below, you’ll find our onsite courses first, followed by our online courses.

We organize Finnish courses from beginner’s level A1 to level C1, in four locations as well as online. Our courses are open to everyone, but students need to register in advance for most of the courses. We do not provide language testing, but certificates of attendance are provided on request. Registration
Note! You must register for most of our Finnish courses in advance, either online or by phone. Course 22008 Finnish for Immigrant Men is an exception: registration for that course takes place at Mattila.
How to register?
• Online registration will start on June 12th, 2025 for most of the courses.
• Registration by phone at 044 553 8400 from Monday to Friday 10 am to 3 pm.
If you register by phone, be prepared to give us your email address, to which we will send confirmation of your registration and the payment details for paying the course fee.
Note that your registration is binding; if you know you can’t attend the course, cancel your registration at least 8 days before the course begins (free of charge). For cancellations 1-7 days before the beginning of the course we charge the whole course fee.

Finnish for Beginners Intensively in August (level 0-A1.2) 22001

The language of instruction for the course is Finnish; English is used as a supplementary language of instruction when needed.
Review your Finnish Language in August 1 (level A1) 22002

The course is intended for students who have taken the Ahjola Finnish 2 course or have studied the equivalent subjects elsewhere. Textbook: Suomen mestari 3, chapters 1-4. If needed, we will review some topics from the Suomen mestari 2 book at the beginning of the course, such as the imperfect and perfect tenses. The course vocabulary relates, among other things, to history, culture, and environmental protection. Grammar topics include e.g. the conditional and passive, which we will practice orally a lot.

We will learn, among other things, new grammatical cases and get acquainted with the features of spoken language. The central theme of the course is life in Finland and its cultural characteristics; we will also learn vocabulary related to leisure, home technology, and sports. Coursebook: Suomen mestari 3, chapters 5-8, supplemented by the teacher’s own materials. At the beginning, we will review the early parts of the book as needed.

The course reinforces B1-level language skills: vocabulary is expanded, grammar is deepened, listening skills as well as discussions are practiced. The course involves both written and spoken language. Coursebook: Suomen mestari 4, which we will start from the beginning.

The course is suitable for you if you can already manage in Finnish in daily life and recurring work situations and want to learn more. The course strengthens B1-level Finnish skills by expanding vocabulary, deepening grammar knowledge, improving listening comprehension, and encouraging participation in discussions. Both written and spoken Finnish are practiced throughout the course. Coursebook: Suomen mestari 4, starting from chapter 3.

Finnish Language and Culture through Music (level A1.2 – A1.3) 22022

The course is intended for students who have studied Finnish for about a year (Finnish 1 course, for example – proficiency level at least A1.2). In the course, you will practice speaking, listening, pronunciation, and vocabulary in Finnish through songs and rhythm exercises. We will also review a bit of grammar. Participation does not require musical hobbies or special skills. Course-related material will be shared with participants on the Peda.net course platform, for which you will receive login credentials from the teachers. The language of instruction in the course is Finnish, but English will be used as an auxiliary language if needed.

The course is intended for immigrant men who already know a little Finnish and want to practice speaking. You have studied for at least one year, either on a course or independently. This August revision course is suitable for you if you have studied, for example, the textbooks Suomen mestari 1-3, and have reached level B1.1 in Finnish. The course strengthens previously acquired language skills by reviewing grammar structures and vocabulary, and by practicing the use of Finnish in both spoken and written form. The course will be held entirely online using the Zoom video conferencing platform. To participate, you need a computer with internet access, a microphone or headset, and a camera.

The course is intended for Finnish students who are preparing for the intermediate level YKI test and want to practice for the test. Prepare for the Finnish YKI Test Online at your Own Pace (level A2.2-B1.1) 22114

The course is designed for those who want to prepare for the Finnish language YKI test, intermediate level, and practice the language skills required in it. In this course you study independently at your own pace, while the teacher is available during the study periods at the Peda.net platform forum, where you can ask questions and receive guidance whenever needed. The course contains one real-time online Zoom meeting – however, you can participate in the course even if you cannot make it to the online meeting. To participate you need a computer with an internet connection, a microphone or headset, and a camera. It is possible to earn course credits (opintopiste) on this course and have them registered in the My Studyinfo service. However, you are welcome to join the course even if you do not wish to receive the course credits.

Do you, too, feel that there are far too few opportunities to speak, discuss, and practice Finnish oral skills? On this discussion course, we will choose a topic, review expressions related to it, and activate them by discussing in small groups and pairs. Participation requires about 3-4 years of active Finnish language study, as the course aims to effectively develop vocabulary based on an already acquired extensive vocabulary. The course is held online via Zoom. To participate, you need a computer with internet access, a microphone or headset, and a camera. Note: This course is identical to the corresponding course held in 2024-25.

Would you like to write texts with more fluent Finnish? This course is suitable for you if you have studied Finnish actively for at least 2-3 years and want to learn to write with more precision. We will meet once a week via Zoom. During our meetings we will study and practice various sentence structures. After each meeting you will get a writing assignment on a current topic. The students get personal feedback on the assignments. To participate you need a computer with an internet connection, a microphone or headset, and a camera. Let’s Speak Colloquial Finnish (level B2) 22127

The course is suitable for you if you have been actively studying Finnish for several years, can handle various leisure and work-related conversational situations well, and already have a wide vocabulary. On this course, you will listen to short authentic conversations, and read colloquial posts (Facebook, Instagram) as well as text messages. We will explore the rules of colloquial Finnish and practice to better understand and speak it. The course is held online, using Zoom. To participate, you need a computer with internet access, a microphone or headset, and a camera. Note: The course is similar in content to the one held in autumn 2024.

This course is for students who have studied Finnish for several years and whose estimated language proficiency level is at least a strong B1. You want to become more accurate in your Finnish and want to learn to use more advanced grammar structures. The focus of the course is on speaking and reading, but the students also have the opportunity to hand in writing assignments for feedback from the teacher. To participate you need a computer with an internet connection, a microphone or headset, and a camera.

This course is for students who have studied Finnish for several years and whose estimated language proficiency level is B2. You already understand fast speech in Finnish and can communicate quite fluently in different situations. This course is for students whose language proficiency level in Finnish is B2.2/C1. We will focus on vocabulary nuances that suit different language situations, learn less common grammar structures, and look at different text types and how they may influence the reader. The course is held entirely online; the learning platform used is Peda.net. You will get a weekly learning plan including various exercises and one assignment on which you will get feedback from the teacher. To participate you need a computer with an internet connection. The course content is the same as on the corresponding course in spring 2025. There are no real-time online meetings on this course; you can study when it suits you best.

The course is suitable for beginners who want to progress quickly and are able to study independently on a daily basis at least 10 hours a week. The course is also suitable for those who want to revisit the basics of Finnish. We will start learning Finnish from the very beginning. You will receive new material five days a week, which you can study when it suits you best. The languages of instruction are Finnish and English. To participate you need a computer / mobile device, a microphone, and speakers. You also need the textbook Suomen mestari 1, of which chapters 1-5 will be covered. The learning platform is Peda.net. Note: The course does not have real-time online meetings; you can study at times that suit you best.
Review your Finnish Online in December (level B1) 22146

Do you feel that it’s time to review the grammar you’ve previously learned and learn some more vocabulary at the same time? Do you want to develop your language skills even after the YKI test? This December revision course is suitable for you if you have studied, for example, the textbooks Suomen mestari 1-3, and have reached level B1.1 in Finnish. The course strengthens previously acquired language skills by reviewing grammar structures and vocabulary, and by practicing the use of Finnish in both spoken and written form. The course will be held entirely online using the Zoom video conferencing platform. To participate, you need a computer with internet access, a microphone or headset, and a camera.
