We organize Finnish courses from beginner’s level A1 to level C1, in four locations as well as online. Our courses are open to everyone, but students need to register in advance for most of the courses. We do not provide language testing, but certificates of attendance are provided on request. If you need a certificate after the course, please contact our customer service: toimisto (at) ahjola.fi

Registration 

Note! The 3 Finnish courses for immigrant women held at Naistari (22002, 22003, and 22004) and the course for immigrant men at Mattila (22006) are an exception: you need not register in advance for them. For all our other Finnish courses you need to register either online or by phone.

• Registration by phone at 044 553 8400. Note! Our customer service is open in June until June 14, Monday to Friday 10 am to 3 pm. 

If you register by phone, be prepared to give us your email address, to which we will send confirmation of your registration and the payment details for paying the course fee.  
 
Note that your registration is binding; if you know you can’t attend the course, cancel your registration at least 8 days before the course begins (free of charge). For cancellations 1-7 days before the beginning of the course we charge the whole course fee.

Finnish for Beginners Intensively in December (level 0-A1.2) 22040

An intensive beginners’ course in Finnish. The course progresses fast and requires independent study between the lessons. After the course, you can continue studying on the Finnish continuation course starting in January 2025, on which chapters 6-9 will be covered. The language of tuition is Finnish; English is used as an auxiliary language of instruction as needed.

To participate you need a computer / mobile device, a microphone, and speakers. You also need the coursebook Suomen mestari 1. The learning platform is Peda.net. There are no real time video meetings on this course, but there is a weekly timetable for interactive exercises that students can participate in on the course platform.

We’ll learn about some rules of spoken Finnish, and practice the understanding and use of spoken Finnish. We will focus on vocabulary nuances that suit different language situations, learn less common grammar structures, and look at different text types and how they may influence the reader. The course is held completely online; the learning platform used is Peda.net. You will get a weekly learning plan including various exercises and one assignment on which you will get feedback from the teacher. To participate you need a computer with an internet connection. The teacher will send you an email prior to the beginning of the course with further instructions. The course is similar to the one held during spring term 2024. There are no real-time video meetings on this course; you can study when it suits you best. 

ONLINE COURSES STARTING IN DECEMBER 

Intensive Finnish for Beginners Online in December (level 0-A1.2) 22145

This intensive course is for beginners who want to proceed fast and are able to study daily and for those who want to rehearse Finnish for beginners. The online material comprises videos, audios and exercises to train listening comprehension, writing skills and speech. You will get online support and answers to your questions throughout the course. The languages of instruction are Finnish and English. Saukkola on yksi Ahjolan omista toimitiloista, jonka peruskorjauksen ansiosta opetus pääsee alkamaan syyslukukaudella käytännöllisissä ja nykyaikaisissa tiloissa. Tilojen uudistamisessa on huomioitu myös esteettömyys. 

Saukkolan toimitilat ovat olleet peruskorjauksessa vuoden, ja elokuussa 2022 pääsemme aloittamaan opetuksen uudistetuissa tiloissa. 

Uusien tilojen suunnittelussa on otettu huomioon käytännöllisyys, ja aiemmin hankalan pieniä tiloja on remontissa yhdistetty.

Esimerkiksi alakerrassa sijaitsevaan liikuntatilaan, eli entiseen 5-luokkaan pystyttiin lisäämään neliötä jopa kolmanneksen verran. Erilaisia liikunta-, jooga- ja tanssitunteja päästään nyt järjestämään 150 neliön salissa. Myös entinen kädentaitojen luokka ja lasityöluokka on yhdistetty suuremmaksi kädentaitojen monitoimitilaksi.

Keramiikkatilat saivat oman uunihuoneen käytävän toiselta puolelta. Aiemmin luokkatiloissa sijainneet uunit lämmittivät luokkatilaa turhankin paljon. 

Musiikkitilat on siirretty rakennuksen päätyyn: entinen Kölvin monikulttuurinen nuorisotyötila on muutettu musiikkiluokaksi, ja sen alapuolella entisen Verstaan tiloissa sijaitsee nyt tilava bänditila. 

Näiden lisäksi myös muihin tiloihin on tullut merkittäviä muutoksia, ja kaikkien tilojen pinnat on käsitelty uudelleen.

Esteettömyys huomioitu

Remontin yhteydessä on keskusteltu Tampereen kaupungin esteettömyystyöryhmän kanssa, ja työryhmän näkökulmia on hyödynnetty suunnittelussa. 

Saukkolan molempiin kerroksiin pääsee nyt invaluiskaa pitkin, ja kerroksista löytyvät myös inva-wc:t. Invaluiskiin on asennettu vastukset, jotta ne pysyvät sulina talvella. Saavutettavuus on huomioitu myös esimerkiksi seinäopasteissa.

”Esteettömyyttä on pidetty tärkeänä näkökulmana, ja se, mikä on kohtuudella ollut mahdollista, on tehty ja tehdään”, kertoo peruskorjauksen projektijohtaja Arto Juhela. 

Juhelan mukaan esteettömyyden kehittämisen lisäksi isoin peruskorjauksen mukana tullut muutos on tilojen kokonaisvaltainen ajanmukaistaminen. 

”Varustelutaso on nyt tätä päivää, samoin yleisilme, kun kaikki on laitettu ja pinnat uusittu. Tyyli on hyvin toisennäköinen kuin ennen. Iso muutos on myös opetustilojen toimivuudessa. Ennen remonttia Saukkolassa oli paljon pieniä koppeja, jotka eivät oikein kelvanneet mihinkään tai toimivat huonosti.”

Saukkolan uusiin tiloihin pääsee siis tutustumaan elokuussa syyslukukauden kurssien alkaessa. Tervetuloa!

Yhdenvertaisuus ja saavutettavuus ovat meille tärkeitä, ja haluamme ottaa esteettömyyden huomioon parhaamme mukaan. Saukkolan toimitiloissa esteettömyyteen on kiinnitetty erityistä huomiota vastavalmistuneen remontin yhteydessä. Valitettavasti emme voi taata esteettömyyttä kaikissa tiloissamme. Ahjolalla on myös paljon opetusta esimerkiksi Tampereen kaupungin tiloissa, joiden esteettömyyteen emme voi vaikuttaa.

  • Pyörätuolirampit: EI, mutta Kipinän kautta pääsee pyörätuolilla -1 -kerrokseen, jos kulkee Ahjolankadun mäen kautta

  • Vahtimestari avustaa tarvittaessa tavaroiden kantamisessa.

Saukkola

Vainionkadun puolelta esteetön kulku alakerran tiloihin: Loisto, Hohto, Huili, Virta (pukuhuoneet salin vieressä, esteetön kulku), Paja, Hehku ja Rytmi.

Sisäpihan puolelta esteetön kulku yläkerran tiloihin: Soolo, Kielo, Valo ja Vire (naisten pukuhuoneeseen esteetön kulku salin läpi, miesten pukuhuoneeseen ei esteetöntä kulkua).

Sointuun ei ole esteetöntä kulkua.

  • Pyörätuoliramppi: ON
  • Inva-WC: ON, sekä ylä- että alakerrassa.
  • Hissi: ON. Hissin käyttöön saa tarvittaessa apua vahtimestarilta.
  • Vahtimestari avustaa tarvittaessa kantamisessa.

Welcome to Ahjola!

Ahjola Adult Education Centre provides courses and guided activities for learning and recreation for people of all ages. The Adult Education Centre is a part of Ahjola Settlement, a non-profit organization in the Tampere area. We offer courses in several areas such as arts and crafts, languages, exercise and dance, health and nature, music, creative writing and theatre. In most of our classes the teaching language is Finnish.

Ahjola Adult Education Centre also organizes courses for enhancing reading and writing skills of immigrants in Tampere area. We also offer project-based courses on digital skills and work life skills for people who have been unemployed long-term.

We also offer the largest selection of Finnish courses in the Tampere area. We organize courses in four locations as well as many online courses for people of all skill levels. We do not provide language testing, but certificates of attendance are provided on request. You may find our Finnish courses here.

Ahjolan Setlementin keskeisiin arvoihin kuuluvat yhdenvertaisuus, osallisuus ja yhtenäisyys. Tuomitsemme Venäjän hyökkäyksen Ukrainaan, ja osoitamme tukemme kaikille sodassa kärsineille.

Haluamme myös osoittaa tukemme kaikille Suomessa asuville venäläisille ja venäjänkielisille. Ukrainan sota ei ole heidän syytään emmekä hyväksy minkäänlaista heihin kohdistuvaa syrjintää tai rasismia.

Haluamme, että kaikilla on turvallinen olo osallistua toimintaamme, oli kyse sitten kansalaisopiston kursseista tai lapsi-, nuoriso- ja perhetyöstä. Painotamme, että jokaisella meistä on oikeus olla, toimia ja harrastaa ilman pelkoa syrjinnästä tai kiusaamisesta. Käymme aiheesta keskusteluja henkilökuntamme ja asiakkaidemme kanssa, ja meihin voi olla yhteydessä matalalla kynnyksellä, mikäli havaitset syrjintää tai rasismia. Täältä löydät palautelomakkeemme. Luemme vastauksia aktiivisesti.

Kuten Setlementtiliiton aihetta koskevassa kannanotossa hyvin ilmaistaan: Jokaisen meidän tehtävä on tukea toisiamme vaikeassa tilanteessa ja omalta osaltamme lievittää kanssaihmisten ahdistusta.

Tehdään kaikki parhaamme sen eteen, että meillä on kaikilla yhdessä hyvä olla.

Mitä sinä voit tehdä?

  • Mikäli tiedät altistuneesi koronavirukselle, suosi maskia kursseilla muiden suojaamiseksi.
  • Älä tule kurssille, mikäli sinulla on flunssan oireita tai epäilet itselläsi koronavirustartuntaa.
  • Halutessasi voit käyttää kasvomaskia
  • Pese kädet tai käytä käsidesiä sekä tullessasi että lähtiessäsi.
  • Suosi omia harrastusvälineitä yhteiskäytössä olevien sijaan.
  • Noudata kulloinkin voimassa olevia viranomaisohjeita ja -suosituksia.

Mitä me teemme?

  • Pienensimme osallistujamääriä kursseilla, jotta turvavälien pitäminen helpottuisi.
  • Tehostimme siivousta omissa tiloissamme.
  • Tiloissamme on saatavilla käsidesiä.
  • Tiloissamme on saatavilla kertakäyttöisiä siivousliinoja yhteiskäytössä olevien opetusvälineiden puhdistukseen.
  • Seuraamme tarkasti viranomaisohjeita ja -suosituksia ja reagoimme niihin tarvittaessa välittömästi.
